We haven’t been asked this question yet, but it’s been on our mind since we opened these positions. It should go without saying, but just to say it anyway: we have a very strict no-AI use policy. If you use AI in any way to create your art, we’re not interested.

What do we mean by “AI”? Well, we’re not talking Adobe Creative Suite’s editing tools, which allow you to layer, adjust highlights, or produce interesting after-effects. We’re talking about the generative kind of artificial intelligence tools in which you input a description or prompt of some sort and it spits out an image. While we don’t have a super specific “you can’t use this” list—I mean, we don’t even fully know everything that’s out there—we do have an alignment statement and associated policy.

For the full policy/statement, check the link in our bio (click the image for this post). In short, “We cannot, in good conscience, use generative AI in our work. If we suspect that it has been used in any portfolio submissions, we will reach out to you for clarification. Any individuals that use generative AI to create images or artwork in their submissions, or intend to use it during the residency period, are not eligible and will not be considered.”

But, do you want to learn more about what’s ongoing and unfolding this past year, specifically? And, are you curious about how that’s related to the broader history and trajectory of rights in the U.S? We’ve got you.

2026 Co-Director of Public Engagement, Jesus Reyes, put together a searchable Airtable that monitors and tracks federal legislation across a number of different areas of life (work, education, sports, public access, etc.), color coded by intensity of restrictions/impact. He also made an interactive timeline, where you can scroll from 1924 to today—more than 100 years!—to see key events in history that impacted the development or and support for broader gender and sexuality-based rights in the U.S.

Now, while we understand and acknowledge that self-care alone will not save us, we also want to highlight that sometimes self-care is as “easy” as learning as much as you can! But, reliable, safe, and accurate health information is harder and harder to come by. And, information overload is totally real. That’s why our recent Co-Director of Public Engagement, Elisha Novoa, created five simple, thoroughly researched, and fully detailed interactive learning modules about sexual and reproductive health across the lifecourse. From contraceptives to menopause and beyond, you can walk through these modules at your own pace and follow up with the list of references and resources at the end to learn even more.
